Arthur Stanley

Arthur Vernon Stanley, son of Fred Earl Stanley and Fonnie Beatrice Carson Stanley, was born May 6, 1922 on a farm near Bagley, Iowa and died October 17, 2005 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 11 days. Vernon, as he was well known, grew up in the Bagley and Jamaica area. He attended school in Herndon. Vernon later joined the United States Army where he was honorably discharged. On January 4, 1947, Vernon was united in marriage to Eleanor Adeline Moore in Des Moines, Iowa. They were the parents of three children: Dean Jeanine and Mark. They made their home in Des Moines for a time until they bought a home in Herndon. Vernon worked on the Bridge Crew for the Milwaukee Railroad. In 1966, Vernon bought an iron yard in Herndon, Stanley Iron & Metal. Vernon liked to play cards especially cribbage. He also loved to work. For more than 50 years, Vernon was a member of the Paul Johnson American Legion Post #687 in Jamaica. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, his sister: Dorothy; 4 brothers: Vincent, Johnie, Paul and Norman. He is survived by his wife Eleanor of Bayard; his daughter: Jeanine Chaloupka and her husband Randy of Yale, Iowa; 2 sons: Dean Stanley of Panora, Iowa and Mark Stanley and his wife Carol of Georgia; 3 grandchildren: Samuel Chaloupka of Yale, Iowa, Allison and Jackson Stanley of Panora, Iowa; 2 sisters: Norma Milligan of Jefferson, Iowa and Esther Clouse of Panora, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
