Audrey H. Collins - Winterset

Audrey H. Collins, 92, of Winterset, Iowa, died Thursday, February 21, 2013 at her residence in Winterset. Funeral services were held 10:30 AM Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with Rev. Bob Epperson officiating. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery at Winterset. Audrey was born on August 24, 1920, at Doon, Iowa to George and Lillian (Jensen) Reit. She grew up in Des Moines and graduated from Lincoln High School. Audrey met her future husband during the end of WWII at Ft. Riley, Kansas. On June 30, 1946 she married Rival W. Collins at Lancaster, Missouri. They resided in Bloomfield, Iowa until moving to Winterset in 1953. She had been a homemaker in recent years. Prior to that, she helped her husband, Rival, in the funeral home operation. Audrey was a kind, sincere, and charitable person. She held a special place in her heart for her three granddaughters. The last year of her life was filled with a special joy for her great granddaughter. Audrey is survived by her sons, William T. Collins of Des Moines and J. Thomas (Terri) Collins of Winterset; sister, Doris Hagquist of Rialto, California; grandchildren, Candice (Michael) Foster of Waukee, Jamie (Nate) Glasgow of Indianola, and Megan (Rodney Holliday) Collins of Ankeny; and great granddaughter, Alexandria Foster. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lillian (Jensen) Reit; husband, Rival W. Collins; brothers, Bernard Reit and Ivan Reit; and sisters, Evelyn Manchester and Jean Ahrold.
