A private family service for Barbara Kay Harter was held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson. Pastor Bob McKnight of the First Baptist Church in Jefferson provided words of comfort. Honorary bearers were: Aaron Harter, Kyle Trunnell, Conner Trunnell and Callie Trunnell. Recorded music played: Empty Arms and You Don't Know Lonely Until It Is Etched in Stone. Interment took place at Jefferson Cemetery. Barbara Kay Harter, daughter of Milton Crees and Ethel Randolph was born February 2, 1947 in rural Audubon County, Iowa and died at Mary Greeley Medical Center on July 29, 2013 at the age of 66 years, 5 months and 28 days. She attended school at Audubon until the age of ten when her mother died and then moved to Perry to live with one of her sisters. She graduated from Perry High School in 1965. Barbara married Robert Pritchard in 1970 and the couple lived in California. They later divorced and Barbara moved back to Iowa where she met Kenny Harter. They were married on November 15, 1989 and lived in Farlin. Barbara worked for the former Cedar Lane Estates of Jefferson as a nurse's aide and then later for Genesis Development as a group home night supervisor. She also worked with Kenny at Kenny's Food Stand in Jefferson. She was the member on a bowling team for many years; enjoyed tending her garden, fishing and the couple enjoyed dining out. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters: Norma Taggart, Ramona Daggett and Jackie Keasey and one brother, Lloyd Crees. She is survived by children Randy Harter (Ann Knights) of Davenport; Jeff Harter (Candy) of Davenport ; Mindy Harter (Roger) of Des Moines; Ellen Tunnel (Jim) of Cedar Falls: grandchildren Aaron Harter of Davenport and Kyle, Conner and Callie Tunnel of Cedar Falls and sisters: Mary Huitt of Guthrie Center; Ruby Blake (Merle) of Audubon; Geneva Oakley (Lloyd) of Audubon; Shirley Kasey of Scranton; Janice Oakley of Audubon; Lois These (Larry) of Audubon and Delores Whaler of Exira, special nephew Roger Cree's and many other relatives and friends.
