Barbara Johnson

Barbara Ann Butts was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on December 29, 1942 to Emma Hill Butts and Emmett Truman Butts, Sr. She departed this life on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the age of seventy four years and five months. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters. Barbara was educated in the Des Moines Independent School System, and graduated from East High School. After high school she attended and graduated from the University of Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Earl B. Johnson and traveled with him to Germany and other locations while he served in the United States Army. Two sons and two daughters were born to their union. A hard worker, Barbara was employed by the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Science (now known as Des Moines University) for forty years. In her spare time she enjoyed crafting, reading, and listening to Motown music. In addition she enjoyed and was known for her outstanding cooking abilities. To remember and cherish her life, love and outgoing sense of humor Barbara leaves two sons, Aaron (Yolanda) Johnson, Des Moines, Iowa and Lorne (Gaby) Johnson, Summerville, South Carolina; two daughters, Robin Johnson and Dione Johnson, Des Moines, Iowa; one brother, Alfred L. Butts, Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, friends and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
