Barbara Jean Mosley died Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines. She was born in Albia, Iowa on July 1, 1931, to Mike and Elizabeth Mosley and lived in Albia for most of her life. Barbara graduated from Albia High School, received a two-year teacher’s certificate from Ottumwa Heights College, and later a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Drake University. She began her nearly 40 year teaching career as a country school teacher in Monroe County and closed it by teaching 25 years in the Albia Public School System. Her work in improving reading skills in early childhood brought her acclaim and awards. Barbara was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia, and for the last ten years a member of St. Augustin Church in Des Moines, where she moved in 2007. She loved reading, cross-word puzzles, the Kansas City Royals, and watching March Madness. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Elizabeth, and her brother William (Bill). Survivors include her brother, George (Sandra); sister-in-law, Marilyn Mosley; nieces, Terri McClavy (John), Cathy Morrisey (Patrick), Christine Kiser (Eric), Lisa Mosley-Ginn (Luke), Sarah Mosley-Bucci (Greg); nephews, Richard Mosley (Stacie) and Michael Mosley (Holly); 18 great-nieces and nephews and 5 great-great-nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, March 27, 2018, 10:00 a.m. at St. Augustin Catholic Church Day Chapel in Des Moines, with a visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia.
