Barry Trindle, 78, of Earlham, died Sunday, April 16, 2017, at the Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 21, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, with family present to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 22, at the Worthington Community Church in Madison County, rural Earlham. A private family burial will be held at a later date in the McDonald-Chase Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Earlham Food Bank and/or Matura Community Action Partnership of Winterset and online condolences can be left at ochiltree.com. Barry Huston Trindle, son of Fred and Mable (Lauterbach) Trindle, was born on December 19, 1938, in Van Meter, Iowa. He graduated from Van Meter High School in 1956 and continued his education at Iowa State University for two years. Barry was united in marriage with Delpha McDonald on May 15, 1960, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. Barry farmed for most of his working career, and harvested three crops: corn, beans and morel mushrooms. He was a member of the Worthington Community Church, the Masonic Lodge in Earlham, which later joined the Winterset Masonic Lodge, and the Winterset Art Center, serving on its board of directors for nine years. Barry had many passions and took great pride in his work and never cut corners. He was a master knife maker whose work made the cover of KNIVES magazine in 1990. Barry’s other passions included photography, computers and operating his HAM radio. Above all else, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend who cherished time spent with family and friends. Barry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Delpha Trindle of Earlham; two children, Vicki (Kevin) Trindle Sanders of West Des Moines, Todd (Darla) Trindle of Winterset; four grandchildren, Dan Trindle, James Trindle-Kirkpatrick, Ben Sanders, Will Sanders, three great grandchildren, Anabelle Trindle, Penelope Trindle, Hunter Trindle-Kirkpatrick, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mable.
