Berbel Gilchrist passed away peacefully on June 20, 2014. She was surrounded by her loving daughter Stephanie and sisters, Ruth Baker and Ursula Geary. Memorial service will be 1:00 PM Monday, June 23 at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel, with interment at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call after Noon Sunday, June 22 at the funeral home where family will greet friends from 2-4 PM. Berbel was born in Pilger, NE in 1952. She was one of eight children born to Alfred and Wanda Haase. In 1975, Berbel married John Gilchrist and moved to Des Moines, Iowa. Working side by side with her husband John at Dean Studios. Berbel and John moved to Adel, Iowa in 1983...enjoying a beautiful life with family and friends. Gifted with the birth of their daughter, Stephanie and retirement, life was full of travel, entertaining, and community involvement. Family and friends filled her heart. Berbel is survived by her daughter Stephanie; sisters Ruth Baker, Ursula Geary, Kathe Heye, and Waltraut Kozal; and two brothers Giodo and Kurt Haase. Berbel was preceded in death by her husband John, parents Alfred and Wanda Haase, and one sister Hildegard Bartman. Berbel would like to thank Unity Point Hospice team who graciously supported her family in laughter, tears, and transition to the Lord's arms for eternity. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Iowa Lyme Disease Association. Online condolences may be left on this site.
