Bernard "Shorty" Williams, son of Charles O and Arminta (Roberts) Williams, was born December 7, 1929 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and died at his home October 31, 2023 with his family by his side. He was 93 years 10 months and 24 days old. Shorty was raised in Fort Dodge until his father passed away when he was 7, and his mother and him moved to Perry when he was 10 years old in the house he still resided in. He was united in marriage to Beverly Jean Conklin on April 20, 1951 in Blue Earth, Minnesota. They made their home in Perry, Iowa where they raised their children. Shorty worked at Davidson Chemicals and Fazels Seed and Corn Plant. He helped on the railroad, and the local junkyard. He also worked for Perry Metal from 1951 to 1963 before going to work for IBP / Oscar Mayer from 1963 to 1991, but his passion was working in the garage doing small engine repair. If you didn't know Shorty you were definitely missing out. If he wasn't in the garage they were camping or he was out at Peter's for coffee with his buddies. After he couldn't work in the garage anymore he enjoyed going for rides and watching old Westerns on TV. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Dorothy Kirchhof and James Williams, and his wife Beverly "Bev" Williams. He is survived by his children: Patty Lile and Pamela Haakma both of Perry, Bernadette Culp (Steven) of Dayton; eleven grandchildren: Peggy Cannon (Dave) of Perry, Paula Pena of Des Moines, Penny Esquivel (Carlos Trevino) of Denison, David Lile (Reanna) of Boone, Adam, Austin, and Shelby Sorenson, and Clayton Culp all of Dayton; fourteen great-grandchildren: Ashley Patton (Quinton) of Des Moines, Augusto Jata (Quincy) of Perry, Cheyenne Pacheco of Des Moines, Leslie Mendez (Edgar) of Denison, Ricky Esquivel of Ames, Jaquelyn Esquivel of Denison, Bailey Smith (Trevor) of Boone, Brooke, Blake, and Brinley Lile all of Boone; seven great-great-grandchildren: Andres, Dominic, and Nattaly Mendez all of Denison, DeAndre and Reignah Patton of Des Moines, and Kingston and soon to be Emerson Jata both of Perry; sister-in-law Linda Conklin of Ogden; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
