Bette Lavee Carpenter

Bette LaVee Carpenter, daughter of James J. Kopesky and Gladys Varner Kopesky was born November 9, 1938 in Perry, Iowa and died December 15, 2008 at her home in Perry at the age of 70 years, 1 month and 6 days. Bette went to the Alton Rural School and graduated from Perry High School in 1956. She married Neal Milo Carpenter on May 4, 1957 in Perry. They were parents of two daughters, Hollie and Heidi. The family lived in Perry until 1962 when they moved to Iowa Falls. They returned to Perry in 1973 and lived at their house on Lucinda until Bette moved to her house on Donna Drive about 3 years ago. Bette enjoyed flowers, family, gardening, fishing and traveling, and watching the Iowa Hawkeye's play basketball. She was a member of the Washington Chapel Church of Christ in Minburn. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Heidi in 1989; husband, Neal in 1999; and sister, Bonnie. Bette is survived by her daughter Hollie Moore and her husband Russell, of Perry; granddaughter, Allison Moore and fianc Jeff Lukhart of West Des Moines; grandson, Ian Moore of Des Moines; sisters, Barbara Johnson of Perry, and Beverly Edmondson and her husband Darrell of Perry; brother-in-law, Al Lankenau of Panora; in-laws, Frank and Bernie Carpenter of Perry, Laura and Earl Gehrke of Lewiston, Idaho, and Bonnie Moorhead of Perry; other relatives and many friends.
