Betty Lou Stoner

Betty Lou Stoner, 93, of Perry, IA passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her family.

Betty was born in Des Moines on December 19, 1930 to Willie A. Dennis and Lillian (Schainker) Dennis. She spent her childhood at Fort Des Moines and Fort Riley, Kansas, and graduated from Lincoln High School. She met her husband, George E. Stoner, and the two got married in 1962 and spent over 40 years together until his passing in 2001. Betty and George owned and operated Stoner's Meat Market in downtown Perry for many years. Before owning the meat market Betty was a proud employee of the Elgin Watch Factory and also worked as a legal secretary.

When Betty wasn't at work she loved gardening, reading, doing crosswords, and had an impressive stamp and coin collection. She also was a member of First Baptist Church in Perry. Betty's favorite pastime, though, was spending time with her family and grandchildren. She especially loved watching her granddaughter, Molly, perform in the school band and choir shows. Betty was known for her kindness and tenacity for life, but she was also known for always reminding people to turn off the lights. She will be remembered as an incredibly loving mother, grandmother, and friend to many.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her siblings; Raymond Dennis, Lillian Hougham and Roland Dennis.

Betty is survived by her daughter; Susie (Brian) Moorhead, her son; Ed Tam, and her grandchildren; Molly and Sean Moorhead.

A visitation for Betty will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home - Perry Chapel, 1721 Park St.. A funeral ceremony will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Violet Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for a future designation.
