Betty Lou Thayer was born in Spencer, IA on January 3, 1929. She went to be with the Lord on May 13, 2016. Celebration of Life Services will be 2:00 PM Monday, May 16, 2016 at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with burial at Winterset Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 1:00 PM until services begin. Betty was born the daughter of Albert M. and Minnie L. (Martinson) Cours. She graduated from McKinley High School in 1947 and went onto graduate from Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines in 1949. Betty married George B. Thayer, Jr. on November 7, 1949. She retired from Mercy Medical Center after 40 years of dedicated service. She is survived by: son, George Bradley (Elizabeth) Thayer; daughter, SuCarol (Larry) Van Horn; son, Albert Dean Thayer; daughter, Cathy Diane (Michael) Johnston; 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and her cat Georgie. Betty is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Michael Robert Thayer; and infant granddaughter, Melissa Kaye Johnston. Memorial contributions may be directed to Animal Lifeline of Iowa.
