Beverly Higby

Beverly Jean Higby passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2014, at the age of 64 years after bravely battling an illness with much grace and dignity. Bev was born on December 13, 1949, to Flossie Mae Milner and the late William James Milner Sr, in Unionville, Missouri. She graduated from Pleasantville High School (1968). Bev married the love of her life, David Higby (1983). Bev and her family lived in Des Moines for several years before moving to Grimes (1995). Bev grew up on a farm in southern Iowa. She always loved animals and over the years, she was able to provide a loving home to many. Bev was a deeply caring and giving person. She loved children and was a professional in-home daycare provider for several years. She spent many hours planning events, games and crafts for the children she cared for, even making sure Santa and the Easter Bunny attended the parties. Bev loved to spend time with her family and always made sure that she was there whenever anyone was in need. She excelled at planning parties, family gatherings, and was a gracious host. Bev was a strong, generous, and giving woman. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Austin David Higby; father, William James Milner Sr.; brother, William James Milner II; sister-in-law, Pamela Milner and brother-in-law, Lance Higby. She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her family; husband David Higby of Grimes, mother Flossie Milner of Pleasantville, daughters Kim (Ken) Barber of Johnston, JoDee (T.J.) Brown of Ankeny, and Whitney Higby of Grimes; daughter-in-law Desirae Higby of Johnston; her 4 grandchildren Cody, Jesse, Hailey and Landen; sister, Barb (Ron) of Knoxville; sister-in-law Donna Higby; and many nieces and nephews. Our family would like to extend their deepest thanks and gratitude to Bevs second family at Urbandale Healthcare Center and Gentiva Hospice for their love, care, and kindness. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Caldwell Raddatz Funeral Home & Crematory 8201 Hickman Rd., Urbandale, IA 50322. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 13 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sunny Hill cemetery in Grimes, Iowa.
