Beverly Jean Devilbiss

Beverly Jean Devilbiss, daughter of Orville Brown Sr. and Evelyn Neiderhouser Brown, was born April 1, 1943 in Kidder, Missouri. Beverly moved to Booneville, Iowa in 1949, then to Perry in 1951. She went to Roosevelt School until fifth grade, and the Junior High/High School in Perry until the tenth grade. She met Harold Eugene Devilbiss and the two were united in marriage on June 21, 1959 in Woodward, Iowa. The couple was blessed with five children: Douglas, Richard, Ben, Beverly Jean Jr., and Harold Eugene Jr. The family made their home in Woodward where Beverly worked as a cook at the Woodward Resource Center. Then in 1965 they moved to Perry. Beverly worked part-time at Perry Manor, Perry Bowl, Perry Caf, and another little caf on the west end of town. Then she worked for Adel Home Care. In 1966 Beverly and her family moved to Bakersfield, California. She enjoyed planting flowers, cooking, bingo, penny slot machines, and going to the casino. In 1970 Beverly and Harold moved back to Perry. She went to work at Woodward as an RTW while Harold ran the Perry Salvage Yard. Beverly loved all her clients she got the opportunity to work with. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Perry. For the last few years Beverly lived on Herndon Road in Bagley. On May 1, 2023 Beverly passed away at the St. Anthony's Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold Sr. in 2003, baby sister at childbirth, sister Sharon Steadman, and brother Orville Brown Jr. Left to cherish her memory are her five children: Douglas Devilbiss (Marcia) of Grand Junction, Richard Devilbiss of Perry, Ben Devilbiss (Monica) of Panora, Beverly J Devilbiss Jr. (fianc Bruce Breitbarth) of Alfa, MN, and Harold Eugene Jr. Devilbiss (Hannah Pederson) of La Porte City; seventeen grandchildren: Alex Devilbiss (Miranda), Megan Moon (Josh), Tyler Devilbiss (Regina), Dustin Evans, Nathan Cooper, Devanee Devilbiss, Eden Devilbiss, Harmony Pederson, Oliver Pederson, Eli Pederson, Mike Devilbiss (Erika Conklin), Josh Devilbiss (Jess), Cody Devilbiss (Katie), Robert Welder (Brianna), Brandon Breitbarth, Christopher Breitbarth (Kylie), and April Feely (Steve); nineteen great-grandchildren: Makaden, Lilian, Aurora, Will, Vayden, Kaitlin, Faith, Lila, Matthew, Eric, Ryan, Colsen, Madax, Landen, Wesley, August, Rylee, Macee, and Ashton; brother Robert Brown of Perry; sisters Shirley Steadman (Richard) of Rippey, Lola Farley (John) of Casey, Betty Bebout (Steve) of Woodward, Linda Birch (Scott Westering) of Carroll, Rosie Lemke of Des Moines, and Doris Westphal of Des Moines; other relatives, and many friends. Visitation was held Friday, May 12, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with family greeting hours from 6 - 8 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Funeral Services were held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2023 also at the funeral home. Burial took place at the Brethren Cemetery in Panora, Iowa.
