A service for Blanche Lavon Miner was held 4:00 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Rev. Max Phillips of the Christ Lutheran Church in Perry provided words of comfort. Honorary bearers included: Vickie Peel, Robert Schirman, Don Bailey, Ron Gilliland, Terry Bailey, Brian Kanealy and Timm Waddle. Virginia White was the pianist. Amazing Grace and The Old Rugged Cross were the hymns chosen. Directly after the service was a luncheon in the Hastings Funeral Home Lounge. Interment will take place at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry at a later date. Blanche Lavon Miner, daughter of Bert Henry Bailey and Pearl Frances Millard Bailey was born on August 23, 1921 near Minburn, Iowa and died February 9, 2013 in Perry, Iowa at the age of 91. She moved to Perry when she was a teenager and attended Perry High School. On October 13, 1941 Blanche and Fred William Miner were united in marriage in Grant City, Missouri. They lived in Perry until 1965 when they decided to move to San Diego, California. In March of 1988 they returned to Perry, Iowa. Blanche and Fred were the family's favorite aunt and uncle. She enjoyed dancing, reading, sewing and playing card games. Blanche was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church, Perry Chief's Three Quarter Century Club and a former member of the Moose Lodge. Blanche is preceded in death by her parents; husband Fred William Miner; brothers: Virgil Leo Bailey, Fred Donald Bailey, Kenneth Lavern Bailey, Leon Perl Bailey, Harold Dean Bailey and Bert Bailey Jr. "Jimmy"; and sisters: Velma Swihart, Thelma Berger, Edna Kanealy and Gertrude Schirman. Blanche is survived by her sister Ruth Delores Bailey of Kernersville, North Carolina; sister-in-law Velma Bailey of Bouton, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. www.hastingsfh.com
