Bob Bittinger, 93, of Winterset, died Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at Winterset Care Center North. A visitation will be held Thursday, November 9, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. A memorial service will follow the visitation beginning at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to the Oak Grove Community Church and/or the American Legion Post 184. Robert William Bittinger, son of Clarence and Clara (Prudence) Bittinger, was born July 10, 1924, in Belvidere, Nebraska. Bob attended schools in the Stanton, Nebraska area and enlisted in the Navy before graduation. He served as a Seabee during World War II. Following his service, Bob completed high school and graduated from Stanton High in 1947. Bob farmed for most of his working career, working at Groth’s and other local farms in the Winterset area. Bob enjoyed reading and volunteering with the American Legion Post 184. He was a loyal brother, uncle and friend who cherished the time he spent with the ones he loved. Bob is survived by nieces, Cherita (Edward) Snyder of Winterset and Trish (Sheldon) Bittenger of Winterset; a sister-in-law, Shirley Bittinger of Winterset; extended family and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Chauncy, Lynn, Glen in infancy, Irvin “Shorty”, Richard, Clarence “Bud”, and Donald (Margaret) Bittenger; sisters, Esther, Tillie, Ione, Ruth, and Ruby.
