Brad Lyle Harrison, 58, of Adel, Iowa, was called home by God on April 10, 2017. Celebration of Life services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 15, at the New Hope Evangelical Free Church in Adel with Pastor Tom Hein officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 9-10 a.m. prior to the service. Brad was born in Des Moines on March 13, 1959, the son of Lyle and Carol (Hatfield) Harrison. He grew up on a farm in Union County and graduated from East Union High School, Afton, in 1977. Brad graduated in 1981 from Iowa State University with a degree in agriculture Brad married Cindy Hilgenberg on May 27, 2000. He was a member of the New Hope Evangelical Free Church of Adel. They lived in Dallas County where Brad was a district conservationist with the Natural Resource Conservation Service for 36 years. During his career, he promoted soil stewardship with landowners and farmers, developed a children’s educational conservation program, and created the national motto for NRCS, “Helping People Help the Land.” He was respected for his knowledge and ability to work with all. Brad was devoted to his family and taught his children by his example to be positive, kind, adventurous, loving, and servants of Christ as he was. Brad was preceded in death by his father, Lyle Harrison, father in law and mother in law, Glenn and Marian Hilgenberg; and brother-in-law Brad Hilgenberg. Brad is survived by his wife, Cindy Harrison; mother, Carol Harrison; and children Melissa (Rick) Strain; Matthew (fiancé Carissa) Harrison; Megan (Andrew) Ferin; and Connor Harrison. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tsyrus Neumann and Caleb Strain and Louie, Tony, and Baby Ferin; his sisters, Jan (Jim) Krantz; Christy (Alan) Ladd; Cindy’s family, Sherry (Gary) Mozena; Steve (Lori) Hilgenberg; Bryan (Zavette) Hilgenberg; Craig (Monica) Hilgenberg, and many other relatives, friends, and co-workers. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Brad Harrison Memorial Fund at Raccoon Valley State Bank. Online condolences may be left on this site.
