Brent A. Winkie

Brent Winkie, 44, passed away on October 18, 2023.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 1, 2023 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, 8201 Hickman Road, Urbandale, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, November 2, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3663 66th Street, Urbandale, IA.  Burial will follow in Oralabor Cemetery in Ankeny.

He was born on April 29, 1979 to Wayne and Margaret (Peg) Koster Winkie in Waterloo, Iowa. He was a proud graduate of Columbus High School in 1997, where he excelled not only academically but also on the sports field. He was a dedicated athlete, known for his passion for baseball and wrestling.

After high school, Brent continued his education at the University of Northern Iowa, where he earned a degree in Business Management with a focus on marketing. During his college years, Brent’s entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as he owned and operated his own lawn mowing business.

After college, Brent dedicated his career working as a shoe representative for various companies. Brent traveled extensively throughout his career.  Brent always had the ability to easily strike up a conversation with anyone no matter where he was.

Brent’s love for sports didn’t end after High School. He cherished the time spent being active with his children and shared his passion as a coach, guiding them in various sports and was extremely dedicated to them. Brent was also an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Iowa Hawkeyes and the Northern Iowa Panthers.

Outside of work and sports, Brent found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Grilling brought him great joy and he was known for dinners he prepared on his smoker. He also had a love for cycling, enjoying the outdoors, traveling, and playing pool.

He is survived by his wife Shannon; children Aiden, Blake and Connor; parents; sister Beth (Jeremy) Pohl; and many extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Robert and Cynthia (Hanson) Winkie and maternal grandparents Richard and Gertrude (Hayes) Koster.
