Bryan Mescher

May 11, 1955 — April 13, 2025

Winterset

Bryan Mescher passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of Sunday, April 13, 2025, surrounded in love. He has spent the last year in a courageous, determined, hard-fought battle with Glioblastoma. Bryan was born on May 11, 1955, in Bancroft, Iowa, to Evelyn (Benson) Mescher and Paul Richard “Dick” Mescher. Bryan was the beloved brother of Paul Richard Jr. “Rick” and Wayne Michael “Mike.”

Bryan grew up on a dairy farm, where he learned the value of hard work—and developed a lifelong love for baseball. On August 20, 1977, he married the love of his life, Jill Cashatt. Together, they built a life full of love and laughter, welcoming their daughter Jennifer Annie and, two years later, their son Zachary Bryan.

After living in Algona, Iowa, the family moved to Winterset in 1991 when Bryan began working at Madison Auto Parts. They made their home on 40 beautiful acres outside of town, lovingly known as “Gma and Gpas.” It became the heart of family life, where Bryan and Jill watched their children grow up, graduate high school, head off to college, and where Jenn would later be married, at home.

Bryan spent countless joyful hours with his grandchildren on the farm—planting gardens, raising animals, driving the cart around the property, sitting together under the shade tree, and simply soaking in every moment. With Bryan around, there was never a dull moment—just laughter, love, and the feeling of home. He shared his love of hunting, fishing, golfing, and enjoying nature with his grandchildren. Many special days were spent fishing and swimming in the pond, building memories that will last forever.

After the passing of his beloved wife Jill, Bryan found love again and remarried in 2023 to Lorrie (Bosma) Mescher. Together, they made their home in Winterset, where they cherished living near his grandchildren.

Bryan was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Dick, and his beautiful wife, Jill.

He is survived by his wife, Lorrie (Bosma) Mescher; his daughter Jenn Drake (Jason); his son Zach Mescher (Nicole Lockett); and his cherished grandchildren: Natalie Drake (Ty Thompson), Callie Drake, Bodey Drake, Ethan Mescher, and Alina Barkley. He is also survived by his brothers Rick Mescher (Linda) and Mike Mescher (Tracy), along with countless friends, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family who loved him dearly.

Bryan leaves behind a legacy of kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering love for his family. His memory will live on in the sound of grandkids’ laughter and in the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing him.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the EveryStep Hospice team in Winterset—especially Stacie, Sarah, and Amy. Through the most difficult times, they provided our family with comfort, compassion, and unwavering support. Their love and grace sheltered us, and their knowledge and guidance helped us navigate the challenges of end-of-life care. We believe they were hand-picked by God for this sacred work, and we are deeply grateful—we could not have done this without them.
