Calvin Meinecke

A service for Calvin Meinecke was held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation was after 1:00 p.m. Wednesday with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Larry Monthei of the Hope United Methodist Parish in Cooper, Iowa provided words of comfort. Honorary bearers were: Larry Correy, Don Weber, The late Johnny Stanley and The late Dr. Maurice Correy. Casket bearers were: Nick Meinecke, Ryan Meinecke, Cory Meinecke, Casey Meinecke, Jeff Meinecke and Darrell Meinecke. Hymns chosen were How Great Thou Art and On Eagle's Wings. Interment took place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Cooper, Iowa. Following the service at the cemetery was a luncheon at the Jamaica Community Center. Calvin Meinecke, son of George Henry Meinecke and Elizabeth Simmer Meinecke was born November 25, 1927 in Des Moines, IA a few minutes before the birth of his twin brother Carol. The two were very close, working and playing together until Carol's death in 1986. Calvin died October 13, 2014 at the Perry Lutheran Home at the age of 86. Calvin attended Jamaica school and graduated in 1945. He farmed with his father and brothers. Calvin played basketball, baseball, semi-pro football and kitten ball. On August 31, 1955 Calvin and Margaret Weber were united in marriage. The couple was blessed with three sons Stephen, Mark and J.C. The family lived near the Cooper and Jamaica areas and then moved into Jamaica in 1971. Calvin did farming and pipeline work at the same time. He worked for Oscar Mayer for 15 years from 1968-1983 until he took early retirement. Calvin cared for Margaret and farmed until retiring at 62. He continued doing what he loved and helped Steve on the farm. Calvin was a Hawkeye fan and also supported Iowa State. He enjoyed fun pranks, wild life, hunting pheasants in earlier days, playing cards especially Pinochle and the poker game Challenge. Calvin also enjoyed spending time with his family and his dog Fritz. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Elvin "Dutch" Meinecke (Mary); Melvin "Bud" Meinecke (Luverne); Ort Meinecke; George Meinecke; Dar Meinecke (Sylvia) and Carol Meinecke (Mary Ellen), father and mother in-law Nick and Mary Weber, brothers in laws, Harold Weber & George Roeder and sister in law Maceline Roeder. Calvin is survived by his wife Margaret Meinecke; sons Steve Meinecke (Lori) of Perry, IA; Mark Meinecke of Grimes, IA and J.C. Meinecke of Windsor Heights, IA; five grandchildren: Cory Meinecke (Michelle) of Yale, IA; Casey Meinecke (Stephanie) of Green Bay, WI; Abby Andrews of Clear Lake, IA; Nicholas Meinecke of Ames, IA; and Ryan Meinecke of Grimes, IA; three great-grandchildren: Brayden, Mason and Easton Meinecke; sister Pauline "Polly" Shaw (Dick) of Dallas, TX; sisters-in-law Eleanor Meinecke of Jamaica, IA and Roberta Meinecke of Jefferson, IA; Frances Weber, of Wesley, IA, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Memorials in Calvin's memory later to be donated to sources in Jamaica & may be sent to Hastings Funeral Home.
