Calvin Whitaker

Calvin Matthew Whitaker was born in Edina, MN on January 10,, 1998. He moved to Des Moines in 2001. Calvin attended WDM Valley High School and graduated in 2016. Calvin attended the University of Iowa and was enrolled at Iowa State University completing a degree in math. Calvin’s aptitude for physics and math was extraordinary. He loved Icelandic music and had a natural affinity for languages. Calvin enjoyed both online games and board games and always had a close-knit group of friends. He was a loving caretaker to his pets. His childhood dog, Chevy, was his close companion and lifelong pal. We will all miss his distinct laugh and humor, his long hugs, and hours of interesting conversation. Calvin is survived by his mother, Marci Whitaker, of Clive; father, Matthew Whitaker, of Washington DC; sister, Alison Whitaker and brother, Lincoln Whitaker, both of Clive; Calvin’s grandparents, Edward and Mary Whitaker of Ankeny, IA, and his grandmother, Dawn Zieman, of Postville IA, and aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family requests any memorials be directed to Furry Friends Refuge of West Des Moines, or the National Math + Science Initiative.
