Carl Allen

July 11, 1928 — September 15, 2005

Carl Albert Allen, son of Frank Allen and Maggie Ellen VanCleave Allen, was born July 11, 1928 in Jefferson, Iowa and died January 26, 2005 at the Perry Lutheran Home in Perry, Iowa, at the age of 76 years, 6 months and 15 days. Carl grew up on the family farm and attended country school, and Bagley High School through the eighth grade. In January of 1951, Carl was inducted into the United States Army, and served his country in the Korean War. For his service, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Purple Heart for injuries received in action. He was honorably discharged from the service in November of 1952. On May 9, 1958, Carl was united in marriage to Wanda Mae Dawson at the church parsonage in Glidden, Iowa. They were the parents of three sons: Ronald William, LeRoy Albert and Albert Roy. The family lived and farmed in the rural Bagley and Bayard areas. Carl farmed with his brothers Jay and Glenn. Eventually, the family bought an acreage southwest of Bagley. After retiring from farming, Carl and Wanda built a new home on their farm. Carl found much enjoyment farming and helping friends and nieghbors. During his years farming, Carl would also substitute as a rural mail route carrier. Then, after retiring from farming, he was the rural mail route carrier for the Bagley Post Office full time. He did this from August 1983 until May 1994. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Wanda, sister Edna Dillingham, brothers: Dean, Elmer (as an infant), Glenn and Jay. He is survived by his sons: Ronald and his wife Sherri of Ogden, LeRoy of Minburn, and Albert of Bayard; grandchildren: Ashley, Desiree and Zachary Allen all of Ogden; sister: Clara Farrell and her husband Jack of Des Moines; brother John Allen and his wife Joan of Churdan; sisters-in-law: Joan Allen of Panora, Maxine Allen of Yale and Joy Allen of Jamaica; other relatives and a host of friends.
