Private Graveside Service for Carmon Z. Sandal was held Monday, August 22, 2016 at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. Visitation was after 1:00 p.m. Sunday with family present from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Honorary bearers were: Alexander Smith, Abigail Ellerman, Danielle Smith, Tanner King, Ashley Campbell, Brayden King, Kaitlyn Ellerman, Austin Smith, Jordan Nevitt, Dayton Zander, Connor King, Evan Smith, Avery Smith and Owen Smith. Casket bearers were: Scott E. Campbell, Nicole King, Dallas Smith, David Smith, Holly Ellerman and Aaron King. Carmon Z. Sandal, daughter of Edwin Erickson and Trenvilla Finnestad Erickson, was born August 26, 1925 on a farm North of Perry, Iowa and died August 14, 2016 at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in Perry at the age of 90. Carmon grew up in Boone County. She went to a rural school in Rippey before graduating from Barnum High School. In October of 1944 Carmon and William Smith were united in marriage. The couple was blessed with two children, Tom and Jeanie. The family made their home in Fort Dodge, then in 1958 Carmon and her children moved to Perry. She worked for Parkers Flower Shop and the Perry Theatre. In 1960 Carmon married Richard "Dick" Sandal. They moved to Wisconsin in 1965, then to Minburn in 1977 and then to Perry in 1989. Dick died May 15, 2008 and Carmon continued to live in Perry. She moved into the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in August of 2015. Carmon was an avid doll collector. She enjoyed going to Antique Shows and favorite places to shop for antiques. Carmon also enjoyed planting and caring for her flowers. What she loved most of all was spending time with family, going out to eat and traveling. Carmon was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard "Dick" Sandal (2008), granddaughter Angel Campbell, son-in-law Scott Campbell, brother Dono Erickson and sister-in-law's Dolores Wiltse and Betty Erickson. Carmon is survived by her son Tom Smith (Lucy) of Plover, WI; daughter Jeanie Campbell of Perry; five grandchildren: Scott E. Campbell of Perry, Dallas Smith (Jamie) of Wisconsin, David Smith (Amanda) of Wisconsin, Nicole King (Aaron) of Granger and Holly Ellerman of Urbandale; fourteen great-grandchildren: Alexander Smith, Abigail Ellerman, Danielle Smith, Tanner King, Ashley Campbell, Brayden King, Kaitlyn Ellerman, Austin Smith, Jordan Nevitt, Dayton Zander, Connor King, Evan Smith, Avery Smith, Owen Smith; brother Edwin "Ted" Erickson (Dorothy) of Humboldt; many nieces; one nephew; other relatives and many friends.
