Carole Ann (Huglin) Lathrum, 76, of Winterset, died Saturday, December 19, 2015 at her home, west of Winterset. A visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 22 at Ochiltree Funeral Service and Aftercare in Winterset. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 22 at Ochiltree Funeral service with burial to follow in the Young Cemetery, near Truro. Memorials may be directed to the family and online condolences may be left for the family at ochiltree.com Carole Ann Hixson, daughter of Patrick and Gretchen (Winters) Hixson, was born February 19, 1939 in Des Moines. She attended high school in Des Moines graduating in 1957. She married Richard Bice and four children were born to this union. Carole later married Bill Huglin, who passed away in 2007. Carole was united in marriage with Robert Lathrum on April 30, 2008 in Corning. She was a past member of the Truro’s Lioness Club. Carole was a farm wife with a strong work ethic. She loved to garden and canned most of her produce. She was a talented cook and seamstress. Carole and Bill ran the Peru gas station, which she added on a greenhouse and enjoyed for many years. Carole had a special relationship with animals, caring for the livestock on the farms and bred Beagles, her final litter coming this last month. She enjoyed riding in the car and going to auctions with Bob. Carole had a true passion for reading, mystery novels being her favorite. Above all else, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Carole is survived by her three children, Sue (Randy) Rosander of St. Charles; Rick (Sandy) Bice of Anita; Cindy (Harlan) Wetzel of Peru; brother, Robert Hixson of Waukee; sister, Patty Sharpe of Truro; sisters-in-law, Mary Hixson of Des Moines; Delores Van Dike of Ankeny; twelve grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, David Bice and brother, Donald Hixson
