Carolyn Wilson Jamison

Carolyn Marjorie Wilson Jamison was born December 26, 1924 in Winterset, Iowa, the daughter of Eldon and Carita (Neely) Wilson. She was the middle child of a family of five including Marvin, Dawn, Richard and Arnold. In May of 1946, she married her high school classmate, Rolland (Bill) Jamison, a marriage that lasted until her death, a total of 60 years. She is survived by her husband, Rolland William Jamison of Winterset; her daughter, Brenda Sue Jamison and friend, Ross Gilstrap of Avondale, Arizona; two brothers, Richard Wilson of Winterset and Arnold Wilson of Sun City, Arizona; four grandchildren, Paula May Rovner and Rolly Gilstrap of Kingston, Tennessee and Ruben Gilstrap and Heather McGlade of Phoenix, Arizona; and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, David Allen Jamison; a brother, Marvin Wilson; and a sister, Dawn Wilson Whinghter. After her high school graduation in 1942, Carolyn was involved in the World War II effort by serving for the Vega Aircraft Company in Burbank, California. Later, she served as a teletype operator for Western Union in the cities of Des Moines, Chicago and New York. After her marriage in 1946, she served on the Registrar’s staff at Iowa State College while her husband was enrolled there. Later, she managed the preparation and publication of the state office records at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines. She discontinued her outside employment in 1959 to care for her adopted son, David. In 1963, they adopted their daughter, Brenda. Much of her time then turned to school and community activities such as leader of the Girl Scouts, church and other community affairs. She was involved in sports and outdoor activities, being an expert bowler, played golf into her retirement years and enjoyed camping, fishing and hiking. She excelled in music and sports in high school including basketball. Later in life, she took up gardening, particularly the organic growing of vegetables and flowers. She enjoyed the hosting and entertaining of guests in their home located near Dubuque. Sewing, reading, crossword puzzles and bridge were enjoyed in her pastime. Carolyn passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2006 at the Winterset Care Center South. She was 81. Visitation: 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., where family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, October 22, 2006 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Service: 10:30 a.m., Monday October 23, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. Memorial: Memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Methodist Church of Winterset.
