Carrie Ann Hausman was born in Boulder, CO, July 20, 1959, the daughter of Anna Mae Eckblad and William Wise. Shortly thereafter, Carrie and her mother moved to Columbia, MO, where Carrie spent her early years in elementary school.
In 1968, Anna Mae married Dr. George Hausman, who adopted Carrie at a young age, they resided in Grundy Center, IA. Through marriage, Carrie inherited two half-sisters, Debby Hausman and Sharae Ann Hausman. Carrie and Sharae were particularly close, they attended school together in Grundy. Carrie graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1977 at the top of her class. She then attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO and graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Magna Cum Laude.
After college, Carrie moved to Kansas City, MO and worked in finance. She met and married Darin Scott Smith in 1984. Scott and Carrie relocated to Chicago, IL where they welcomed with joy their firstborn, Joshua Ryan. After relocating again to St. Louis, MO, Scott and Carrie added to their family with the birth of their daughter, Hillary Lauren.
Carrie settled in Kansas City, MO and was actively involved with the Healing House, where she lived and worked. She followed her father’s love of medicine working as a phlebotomist and lab technician at St. Lukes Hospital in KC. In her final months, Carrie was residing in Ankeny, IA with a lifetime family friend, James Hauge.
People would often joke that you could always find Carrie with her nose in a book, as she loved to read. She was also fond of watching her KC Chiefs football games with her sister, Amy, long distance on the phone for hours. Perhaps her greatest joy was being a mom, she was always so proud of her children's accomplishments. Joshua was not only her son, but her very best friend. She was also very proud of Hillary, who became a nurse and brought Carrie's grandchildren into the world.
Carrie is preceded in death by her parents, Ann and George Hausman of Ames IA, and her biological father Bill Wise of Boulder CO.
