Catherine Louise Berry

Catherine Louise Berry, daughter of Susan Hegstrom and Mike Hegstrom, was born December 27, 1971 in Columbia, Missouri and died April 19, 2014 at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center in Marshalltown, Iowa, at the age of 42 years 3 months, 22 days. Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Hastings Funeral Home, Perry, Iowa. Words of comfort Bruce R. Webster Church of Christ Jefferson, Iowa. Her honorary casket bearers were; James Berry, Patty Keller, Tracy Berry, Bobbie Joe Swanson, John Berry, Charlie Berry, Jammie Sheley, Michael Berry, Steven Berry, Jessica Berry. Her casket bearers were; Shawn Hegstrom, Eric Hegstrom, Chaz Hegstrom, Noah Hegstrom, Kevin Van Dorn, Kyle Van Dorn. The hymns were, "In the Garden," "This World is Not My Own," "Farther Along," "I'll Fly Away" and the song "Clouds." The burial was at Violet Hill, Perry, Iowa. Everyone was invited to a time of lunch and fellowship in the funeral home lounge following the services at the cemetery, hosted by the First Baptist Ladies. Catherine was taken in by Susan and Mike Hegstrom at the age of one and was raised as one of their own. She attended elementary school in Perry and Smouse Ruby Van Meter school of Des Moines. She then moved to Marshalltown and graduated from Marshalltown High school. Catherine enjoyed watching television shows, especially game shows. She was never without her television guide and enjoyed the morning newspaper. Catherine's favorite television shows were The Price is Right, Curious George and the Regis and Kelly show. Catherine would communicate with people using her picture book that she always had with her and enjoyed having people draw for her, Prairie Meadows concerts, shopping and car rides. Catherine collected calendars, sparkly jewelry, long necklaces and many cd's, as she had a great love for music. Catherine's favorite music artist was Elton John. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and all of its amenities. Catherine also looked forward to all of her many visits to her home in Perry and every birthday celebration that was thrown for her there. She is survived by mother Susan Hegstrom and father Mike (Mary) Hegstrom; her biological mother Jane Berry of Trenton Mo., two brothers Shawn Hegstrom of Perry, Iowa and Eric (Jenny) Hegstrom of Evansville, Tennessee; her sister Alicia (Jeff) Van Dorn of Perry, Iowa; her uncles: Bill (Katy) Stout of Derry, New Hampshire ; Pat Stout of Missouri; Michael (Jane) Stout of Boone, Iowa; Dan Stout of Perry, Iowa; Andy (Diane) Stout of Perry, Iowa; her aunts: Cathy Blaser of Perry, Iowa; Anna Larsen of Des Moines, Iowa; Sara (Chris) Guzman of Perry, Iowa; Diana (Dan) Brown of Dexter, Iowa and her family at Central Iowa Residential Services as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. She will be greatly missed. Memorials may be left at Hastings Funeral Home.
