Charles Alan Baker lost his battle with cancer on August 30th at Kavanagh house in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Van Meter, with burial immediately following at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 10:00 am until service time. Charles was born June 3, 1940 in Des Moines, Iowa to Charles and Virginia Baker. He graduated Van Meter High School in 1958 and served in the US Navy from 1958 to 1962. He spent most of his years as a truck driver and retired from the IA DOT in 2006. Charles is survived by his wife, Rosalie of Van Meter; son, Gregory of California; step-daughters, Jackie (Jim) and Pam (Jon) of Missouri; grandchildren, Miles, Julie, Erin, and Austin: great grandchildren, Logan, Jade, James, Zack, Adelyn and Zaden; twin sister, Charlene (Lloyd) and four half siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Jimmy. Charles enjoyed his last few years helping care for the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Kavanagh House Hospice 56th Street in Des Moines or Trinity Lutheran Church. Online condolences may be left at at this site.
