Charles 'Burt' Bennett

Charles Burton Bennett was born in Madison County, Iowa at the family farm on July 7, 1927, the son of Kyle and Fannie (Gideon) Bennett. He attended Winterset Schools and later entered the United States Army at the age of 17. He married Inez Woods in 1992. She preceded him in death on April 11, 2008. He is survived by a stepson, Pat Woods of Winterset; a stepdaughter, Mary Slauson (Steve) of Grimes; 4 step grandchildren (Lori, Rusty, Trisha and Chad); 7 step great grandchildren (Hailey, Stacy, Mikala, Devan, Jacob, Clark and Cora); 2 cousins, Wilma Busch of Winterset and Carol Gillespie of MN; and several other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Inez. He drove truck for various companies in Winterset, Des Moines, and Denver, Colorado. He was a member of the Lorimor Baptist Church and also the VFW. Charles liked garden tilling and mowing. In his later years, he enjoyed woodworking and leatherwork. Charles died July 24, 2008 in Winterset at the Madison County Health Care System. He was 81. Visitation: Family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 27, 2008 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare.
