Charles Frederick Davis, only child of Charles Frederick Davis Sr. and Anna Elizabeth Nelson Davis, was born February 28, 1926 in Jefferson, Iowa and died February 14, 2008 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa, at the age of 81 years, 11 months and 16 days. Chuck, as he was fondly known, attended school in Beaver his first year of school and graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1943. He graduated in 1951 from Iowa State University with an Industrial Asministration degree. Chuck worked from 1950 to 1952 for the Iowa Department of Transportation and then for Hallett Construction from 1952-1980. His career continued with Iowa Road Builders, Irving F. Jensen Company and then was AGC Technical Services Director, Chuck dedicated many years to the city of Jefferson, serving on the City Council from 1960-1980 when he was elected Mayor. He served in that capactiy until 2004. Chuck served his country, in the Army Air Corps during WWII after enlisting June 12, 1943. He was honorably discharged May 9, 1946, attaining the rank of Corporal. Chuck was married to Leora Mae Schilling September 3, 1950 at the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson. Chuck and Leora were parents of three children: Chuck, Rosella, and Debra. In addition to his years of community service, Chuck served in business organizations. He was President of Iowa Concrete Paving Association in 1969 and on the board of American Concrete Paving Association. He served as president of American Road and Transportation Builders Association of Iowa from 1980- 1981. At home he enjoyed gardening, maintaining a green house to grow vegetables, woodworking, (espcially dollhouses), and making small model ships. Chuck was a member of the First United Methodist Church; American Legion Post #11; and was ac active member of the Republican Party. He was preceded in death by his parents. Chuck is survived by his wife of 57 years, Leora, son Chuck and wife Theresa of Madrid, Iowa; daughters Rosella Lally and husband Ken of Charter Oak, Iowa and Debra Whitver and husband Ed of Grinnell, Iowa; 9 grandchildren: Dr. Anthony Davis and wife Kel Anne; Clint Davis and wfie Laurie; Jacob Whitver and wife Marivelle; Jack Whitver and wife Rachel; Trent Lally and wife Bria; Trevor Lally; Nicki Acton and husband Tom; Tina Whitver; and Tessa Lally; 3 great-grandchildren, Baker Lally; Brooklyn Lally, and Caden Whitver,; Cousins, Margaret Conroy, Ruth Aurand, Dale Davis , and Doris Hiskinson; other relatves and many friends.
