Charles H. Mischke

Charles Henry Mischke, son of Lynn Mischke and Marie Arbuckle Mischke, was born April 8, 1939 in Iowa City, Iowa and died November 9, 2009 at the Greene County Medical Center Long Term Care at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 1 day. Charlie, as he was lovingly known, attended Bristol # 4, Farlin, and the Jefferson High Schools and then helped his father on the farm. On October 13, 1965, he married Phyllis Jean Millard at First Christian Church in Jefferson. They were parents of three children, Mary, James, and Gayle. He farmed south of Churdan and helped with the E. M. T's at Car Races in Jefferson and in 1986 moved into Churdan. He enjoyed operating his CB and his handle was "Poke Along". As a couple they enjoyed CB jamborees. Charlie enjoyed fishing, camping, and watching sports on television. He really liked doing word search puzzles. Charlie had a good sense of humor and his children and grandchildren will miss his teasing. Charlie's cat Kelly was very special to him. He was preceded in death by his parents. Charlie is survived by and lovingly remembered by his wife Phyllis of Jefferson, IA, son James "Jim" Mischke and wife Lynn of Newhall, IA; daughters Mary Burkey and husband Bryon of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Gayle Pike and husband Ron of Jefferson, IA; 4 grandchildren, Aaron, Joshua, and Leah Burkey and Christopher Mischke; one brother Nile Mischke and his wife Irene of Jefferson, IA; nieces, nephews; brothers-in-law Alvie, Darrel, and Ivan Millard and sisters-in-law Eva Radcliff and Avis Velasquez; uncle Dean Arbuckle of Jefferson, IA; other relatives and friends. Memorials may be left at Hastings Funeral Home.
