Services for Charles Herman Springer Jr. were held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2019 with visitation starting at 9:00 a.m. at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry, Iowa. Mr. Tom Stone provided words of comfort. Honorary bearers were Brady Phipps, Blake Phipps and Kole Lovely. Casket bearers were Don Mousel, Ron Jennings, Taylor Jones, Nick Foltz, Tom Stephany and Wayne Dowd. Chuck Schott was the musician. Hymns chosen were "Amazing Grace," "Life's Railway To Heaven" and "In The Garden." Interment took place at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. Following the services at the cemetery was a luncheon at the First Christian Church in Perry. Charles Herman Springer Jr., 89, passed away peacefully Saturday October 5, 2019 at his home in Clear Lake, with his family by his side. Charles was born March 1, 1930 in Perry, Iowa to Charles Sr. and Bertha Springer. He worked for the Railroad from June 1, 1945 until January 24, 1992. Charles also owned his own Tree Service Company from 1963 until 1972. He was a very hard working man. Charles touched the lives of everyone he met! He was such a kind, sweet, loving and caring person. On April 21, 1951 Charles married Zada Helen Mansfield. They were blessed with three sons Richard Charles, Gary Dean and Lynn Eric. The family made their home in Perry, Iowa for many years, until 1980 when the Railroad took them to Mason City, Iowa. In 1990 they moved to Clear Lake, Iowa. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, wife Zada in 2009 and granddaughter Amy Springer in 2001. He is survived by his three sons: Richard (Pattie Young) of Creston, IA; Gary (Julie) of Phoenix, AZ and Lynn (Martise Shevik) of Clear Lake, IA; three grandchildren: Mindi Jones (Brett) of Granger, IA; Susan Springer of Creston, IA and Cally Olson (Kully) of Rockwell City, IA; seven great-grandchilden: Taylor, Kole, Brady, Blake, Madelynn, Aibree and Kensley; two sisters Irene Hanselman (Everett) and Vivian Smotherman, both of Perry; other relatives and many friends. Memorials in his name will be accepted at HASTINGS Funeral Home for the family's later designation. A Celebration of Life Service will take place in Clear Lake, Iowa at a later date.
