Charles ‘Bill’ King was born April 15, 1933 in Macksburg, Iowa, the son of George and Daisy Dell (Herren) King. He graduated from Lorimor High School and then went on to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War. Bill later married Barbara Jo Dowler on August 10, 1953 in Fort Bellvoir, Virginia. Together they raised their children in Indianola and moved briefly to Dubuque and Sioux City; and retired in Lorimor. Bill is survived by a son, Dr. Mark King of Fort Wayne, IN; two daughters, Debby Goble of Afton and Sherri King of Lorimor; two brothers, John (Fran) King of Creston; George (Sharon) King of Treynor; a sister, Mary Jo (Bob) Lowry of Urbandale; eight grandchildren (Rachel, Michelle (Dustin), Megan, Kerry (Wade), Niki, Joe, Stacy, and Sarah); and two great grandchildren (Ashly and Brodie). He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Barbara Jo King; daughter-in-law, Jamie King and grandson, Ryan Shields. Bill was a senior executive for Metz Baking. He was a member of the American Legion and the Lakeshore Country Club. He enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing, golfing and playing cards and pool. Bill was a very social person who loved spending time with his family and friends. Bill died Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at home in Lorimor. He was 75. Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., with family present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 11, 2008 at Ochiltree Funeral Service. Service: 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 12, 2008 at Ochiltree Funeral Service. Memorial: Memorials may be directed to the Lorimor Fire and Rescue and the American Legion Post 96 of Lorimor.
