Charles Knight, 95, of Winterset died Thursday, April 28, 2016, at West Bridge Care and Rehab in Winterset. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 5 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset with burial immediately following in the McDonald-Chase Cemetery, Madison County. A visitation will be held 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 4 at Ochiltree Funeral Service, with family present to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to HCI Care Services and/or Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8142 and online condolences may be left for the family at ochiltree.com. Charles Francis Knight was born in Glendon, Iowa on February 28, 1921, the son of Arba and Amy (Fisher) Knight. He served in the United States Navy during World War II on the aircraft carrier, USS Ticonderoga. His marriage to Dorothy Hope Bush took place on April 29, 1961 in Winterset. Charles worked for Northwestern Bell for over 40 years, retiring in 1988. After retirement, Charles enjoyed working as office manager at State Farm Insurance for his granddaughter, Charlotte. He was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #8142 and American Legion Post #184 both of Winterset for many years. He loved to go golfing, fishing, hunting, and camping. He also enjoyed making jerky and loved to go to Macksburg to eat hot wings and have a beer. Charles is survived by his children, Veneta, Beverly and Chuck, his stepson, Duane Bush of Winterset; 11 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 26 great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy on November 21, 2000, stepdaughter, Charlene Chandler, stepson, Richard Bush, a brother, Arba Knight, Jr. and two infant sisters.
