Charles Staniger

April 19, 1941 — May 16, 2021

Charles “Chuck” Staniger, 80, was called to the Lord on May 16, 2021 while he was surrounded by his loving family. Chuck was born on April 19, 1941 to Charles and Eileen “Clark” Staniger in Lake Forest, Illinois. As a young boy, his family moved to Centerville, Iowa, where his dad owned and operated the DX Gas Station. He attended and graduated from Centerville High School. Not long after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Charles married the love of his life, Mary Jo Kauzlarich, on October 15, 1977 at St. Mary’s in Centerville. From this union, two beautiful children, Jason and Jill, were born. Chuck became a stay-at-home dad, a position which he loved. Once the children were grown, he worked at Caldwell Raddatz Funeral Home. Chuck loved packing up the RV to travel the western part of the United States with his wife. They explored old forts, historical sites, the Rocky Mountains, and took a big interest in panning for gold. Chuck was very artistic and enjoyed working with both leather and natural wood. He leaves behind a treasure trove of beautiful keepsakes for his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Mary Jo, and children Jill Staniger of Des Moines and Jason (Nicole) Staniger in California; grandchildren Sophia, Augustine, Athan, Ali Jo, and Theo. He shared a special bond with his brother John (Mary) Staniger of Ames, as well as their children and grandchildren. He is survived by his brothers-in-law Tony (Sue) Kauzlarich and David Kauzlarich, both from Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his best friend with whom he enjoyed RC flying and attending gun shows, Milo Ferrari Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Eileen Staniger; grandparents Frank and Anna Staniger, and Walter and Isabella Brinkman. Per Chuck’s request, there will be no service at this time. However, there will be an online service later, so all can participate. His ashes will be interred in the Rocky Mountains. We wish to thank all the people who prayed for him and offered their support throughout his illness, as well as all medical providers/staff who were so kind and caring. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
