Charlotte Dixie (Nolan) Carr, 80, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at the Iowa Veteran’s in Marshalltown, Iowa. Memorial Services will be held 10 am, Friday, March 17, 2017 at the Iowa Veterans Home located at 1305 Summit Street in Marshalltown, Iowa 50158. Funeral services will be held 10:30 am, Monday, March 20, 2017, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home and Crematory. Internment will follow at Iowa Veterans Cemetery located at 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive in Adel, Iowa. Charlotte Dixie (Nolan) Carr was born on September 2, 1936, in Victory Township, Guthrie Center, Iowa the eldest daughter of James and Dorothy (Clark) Nolan. Dixie graduated from Panora High School in 1954. She moved to Des Moines for employment. She took a road trip with her beloved Aunt Virginia, visiting beaches and traveling to Cuba before it became off limits to the world! This trip was quite an adventure for Dixie. She worked for the phone company in downtown Des Moines, Iowa where she met her future husband. Charlotte loved tending garden, sewing, reading and there was not a crossword puzzle she could not finish. She had a passion for weather watching, although she had no formal education she tracked weather events with a keen understanding and could articulate these occurrences as well as any meteorologist. Charlotte married Ronald Gerald Carr, on June 6, 1958 in Des Moines, Iowa. Dixie was a stay at home Army wife who raised 6 children and lived in many states and countries: Illinois, Colorado, New Jersey, Iowa, Virginia, Kansas, Germany, South Korea and Okinawa. Ronald retired as a career Army Sargent 1st Class and they returned to Des Moines to enjoy their life as grandparents. Dixie is preceded in death by her parents James and Dorothy Nolan, three brothers: Donavon Nolan, Jerome Nolan, Daniel Nolan, one sister Susie (Nolan) Anthoney, and two daughters: Cheryl Carr and Michele Carr. Survivors include her loving husband Ronald Carr of Marshalltown, IA, four children: Ronda (Carr) Kemp of Dallas, TX, Anthony Carr of Austin, TX, Darla Carr of Woodbridge, VA and Brenda (Carr) Fulton of Des Moines, IA 3 brothers Nick Nolan (wife Teresa) of Redfield, Iowa, Curtis Nolan of Des Monies, IA and 1 sister Juanita (husband Lawrence) Bullard of Wellman, IA. (10) Grandchildren: Steven Rivera, Bianca Archuleta, Alloyia Sims, Alton Coward, Charlotte Sims, Laura Duque, Lori Sims, Sabrina Carr, Sofia Carr, Olivia Kemp (6) Great-Grandchildren: Jasmine Riviera, Croix Rivera, Bryan Gardner, CieAyla Boyce, Isaac Archuleta Huerta and Adrian Archuleta Huerta. And her loving extended family, Bryan Brooks, Adrian Carr-Brooks and Robin Brooks. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the (IVH) Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. The family of Charlotte Dixie (Nolan) Carr wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the incredible staff at the Iowa Veterans Home, family and friends and the Caldwell Parish Funeral Home.
