Charlotte Kunzler, 86, died Sunday August 13, 2023, at her home in Adel, Iowa.
Charlotte was born May 23, 1937, in Springfield, MO to Ed and Rena Gideon, the eldest of 3 girls. She attended Willard High School, where she met the love of her life, Duane Kunzler. They were married April 15, 1956, and began their family of 5 children.
Charlotte and Duane later moved to Windsor Heights, Iowa where she attended Iowa Methodist School of Nursing, and received her Registered Nurse degree. She worked 16 years at Iowa Methodist Medical Center and retired at the age of 55 to pursue her love for gardening, miniature horses and being a Grandma. She showed miniature horses and opened a small family greenhouse later in her retirement. Charlotte also enjoyed her nearly daily calls with her sister, Glenda.
As with their horses and their dog Fiona, Charlotte was small in stature, but mighty in presence to the day she died.
Charlotte is survived by her husband of 67 years, Duane Kunzler; children, Carla (Jeff) Schneider of Van Meter, Mike (Scott) Kunzler of Clive, Renee (David) Herman of Van Meter, and Kelley (Brad) McManus of West Des Moines; sister, Glenda (Max) Dorris; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Debra Lynn Kunzler; and sister, Bonnie June Weaver.
To honor Charlotte’s wishes there will not be a formal service. We ask instead, that you take some time with family, friends, and if you knew Charlotte, please share a story or two on her tribute wall above. In lieu of flowers or gifts please donate to The BrightFocus Foundation, Macular Degeneration Research. Charlotte suffered from this condition, and regularly reminded all who she knew to take care of their eyes.
