Connie Thompson

Connie Thompson, 70, of Van Meter, was united with Jesus on September 13, 2023 after a battle with ALS.

Constance (Connie) Lorraine Cottrell was born May 7, 1953 in Des Moines to Bill Cottrell and Dixie (Allen)Jennings. As the oldest, she took care of her siblings and that prepared her for her best job, mother. Connie was a mother to 8, along with many others who called her ma, mom, and Mrs. T. She loved Jesus, the church, and especially the youth ministries. Connie was a member of the Van Meter Baptist Church for over 45 years. She was active with the youth ministries and a fixture at the youth and teen camps for many years.

Connie loved playing games and cards with friends and family. She enjoyed a good breaded tenderloin and cheering for the Bulldogs, Cyclones and Dolphins.

Connie leaves behind her mother, Dixie; husband Dick; children, Carrie, Sheiry (Jason), Courtney, Amanda, Landan (Kristen), Wendy, Robyn (Jeff), and Nancy; sisters, Denise (Dan) Forret and Vickey (Mark) Benshoof; brother, Terrell (Vernone) Meldrem; 24 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren she loved so very much. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and so many friends. She was preceded in death by her father, William; and grandson, Devon Lee Slycord.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, September 17, 2023 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Adel Chapel. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 18, 2023 at the Van Meter Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Booneville Cemetery.
