Daina Young

Daina Young, 68, of Des Moines, passed away on November 3, 2023 at her home in Des Moines.

Daina was born on September 28, 1955 to Vitolds and Rutha (Zakis) Voskans in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from Dowling High School in 1974 and attended classes at DMACC. Daina worked many places over the years, including, Plaza lanes, Des Moines Pittsburgh Steele, and Subco. On April 27, 1985, she married Scott Young in Des Moines. To this mariage, two boys were born, Nicholas and Steven.

Daina was known to be a fun and loving person. She enjoyed listening to music, drinking a little wine and dancing. She also liked to watch cooking shows on T.V., but could never master the art of cooking herself. Daina loved to travel when she was younger, and especially loved visiting Colorado. She was proud of her Latvian heritage that her parents had given her. Daina Loved her two sons and supported them in all of their life’s adventures.

Daina is survived by her husband, Scott; her mother, Rutha Glenn; sons, Nicholas Young, and Steven (Mandy Palmer) Young; half-brother, Kenny Glenn; and half-sisters, Stephanie Knight, Erika Glenn, and Melita Glenn. She was preceded in death by her father, Vic; grandmother, Maiga Zakis; and grandchild, McClain Young.
