Daisy Dell King

February 16, 1908 — April 10, 2006

Daisy Dell Herren was born February 16, 1908 in Macksburg, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Flossie (Gillogly) Herren. She graduated from Macksburg High School in 1925. Her marriage to George M. King took place on August 27, 1927 in Macksburg. Daisy Dell is survived by four children, John (Frances) King of Creston; Mary Jo (Bob) Lowry of Urbandale; Bill (Barbara) King of Lorimor; George (Sharon) King of Treynor, IA; one brother, Robert (Mary) Herren of Creston; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two grand-children, Janet Saxton Rode and Monty George King; and one great-grandson, Ryan Shields. Daisy Dell was a teacher and she began her teaching career in Farson, Iowa after receiving a two year teaching certificate and she later received both her B.A. and Masters Degrees from Drake University. She taught 30 years in the East Union Community School System. Even after retiring, her love of teaching called her back many times to substitute until she was 78. She was a member of the Lorimor Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. She was also active in Royal Neighbors of America, volunteered with the Union County Cancer Drives as well as the Madison County Historical Complex in Winterset. She was also a member of the Women’s Relief Corp (WRC) in Macksburg of which she was a 50 year member. She played Basketball in high school and even played in the State Basketball Tournament in Glenwood, Iowa in 1925. She loved music and played the piano and violin.
