A Mass of Christian burial for Dakota Andrew Hoffman was held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 18, 2014 at St Patrick Catholic Church in Perry. A Vigil was 7:30 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2014 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Father Paul Nguyen of the St Patrick Catholic Church in Perry was the Celebrant. Cheyenne Hoffman was the lector. Carole O'Hare was the Eucharistic Minister. Gary & Sandy Spooner were the gift bearers. Bill O'Hare and Gary Becker were the ushers. Casket bearers were: Brian Morehead, Nick Miner, Ed Coleman, Seth Coleman, Stone Bohall and Justus Bohall. Chuck Schott was the musician. Interment took place at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry, Iowa. Dakota Andrew Hoffman, son of Craig Hoffman, Jennifer and Matthew Spooner and biological father Pat Atkins, was born June 8, 1995 in Des Moines, Iowa and died January 12, 2014 in Perry, Iowa at the age of 18. Dakota attended school at Granger Assumption, Dallas Center Grimes, Perry, his sophomore year at East Greene and then graduated from Perry High School. Dakota enjoyed football, baseball, and art. He was attending college at DMACC for Welding. Dakota enjoyed masonry work. Dakota is preceded in death by his step-grandmother Lesa Werner. Dakota is survived by his mother and step-father Jennifer and Matthew Spooner , father Craig Hoffman, biological father Pat Atkins, sister Cheyenne Hoffman, brothers Jacob and Tyler Hoffman, half-sister Ashlyn Atkins, step-sisters Airel Walker, and Hannah Sloan, step-brothers Christopher Spooner and Austin Carpenter, grandparents Veronica LaBar, Keith & Becky Harvey, Wayne Werner, and Carolyn & Lewis Atkins, step-grandparents Gary & Sandy Spooner, great-grandparents Vi & Harold Sheets, aunts Valissa Werner, Heidi Miller and Kisha Niebuhr, step-aunts Donna Todd and Christine Madren, uncles Cory and John Atkins, step-uncle Jason Spooner, his soul mate Gracie Coleman, many great aunts & uncles, cousins, and many friends. www.hastingsfh.com
