Dale Atkinson

Dale Atkinson, 84, of Winterset, passed away at his home after a battle with esophageal cancer on August 16, 2023.

Dale was born on July 25, 1939 to John and Nola (Holmes) Atkinson in Truro, Iowa. He graduated from Truro High School. Dale entered the United States Navy following high school and served for five years, with two of them being stationed in Japan. He married Judy Foley on March 27, 1965 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Dale worked for Massey Ferguson in logistics and fleet for over 40 years. Dale served on the Peru Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years and also served as the City Clerk.

Dale was as big of a NASCAR fan as they come. He loved to go to the races and would travel around to many of the tracks. Sundays were always reserved to watch the race. In his earlier years, Dale liked to golf and played in a golf league. The casino and the outdoors were always reserved to escape the real world. Dale was also a collector. He collected countless coins over the years and always checked a coin prior to it being turned in. Dale was known for his sense of humor and always found enjoyment in the life that he lived.

Dale will be missed by his wife, Judy; children, Tori (Tom) Tracy, and Kory (Nicole) Atkinson; brother, John Atkinson; 4 grandchildren, Karissa, Sierra, Dillon, and Noah; and 1 great granddaughter, Lily. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nola Atkinson.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 25, 2023 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel. Family will greet friends one hour prior beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be held in the Ebenezer Cemetery at a later date.
