Dale D. Young

Dale D. Young was born June 12, 1930 on a farm in Adair County, the son of Ralph and Bernice (Kirkland) Young. He attended Adair country school (Pumpkin Center), Creston country school, and later attended Macksburg High School. His marriage to Doris Travis McKeever Davis took place on August 2, 1997 at the North Ward Plaza in Winterset. He is survived by his wife, Doris of Winterset; his step-sons, Monty McKeever (Betty) of Winterset, Jerry McKeever (June) of Winterset, Larry ‘Buck’ McKeever (Su) of Des Moines, and Robert McKeever (Debbie) of Winterset; two sisters, Maxine Wheeler (Lee, Jr.) of Lorimor and Myrtle Bailey (Lawrence) of Altoona; a brother, Phil R. Young of Wentzville, MO; a sister-in-law, Maxine Johnson of Cromwell; a brother-in-law, Clark Travis (Marilyn) of Davenport; 9 step-grandchildren, 22 step-great grandchildren; 11 step-great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Lois, and a nephew, Richard Bailey. During his working career, Dale was a truck driver for Edwards Trucking. He also farmed part-time, worked carpentry with his uncle, and did various jobs for the elderly in Madison County. Dale attended services at the Church of the Nazarene in Winterset. He loved to tell stories. He enjoyed time with his step-children and nieces and nephews. Dale also liked to play cards and enjoyed growing violets. The happiest days of his life are those along side his wife, Doris of nearly 10 years. Dale died Sunday, May 13, 2007, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was 76. Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, where family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., May 16, 2007 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare. Service: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 17, 2007 at the Church of the Nazerene in Winterset. Memorial: Memorial contributions may be directed to his family.
