Dale Golightly, 85, of Van Meter, died Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 16, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, where family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 17, at Trinity Lutheran Church near Van Meter with burial to follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church and/or the American Legion Post 403. Online condolences can be left for the family at ochiltree.com. Sanford Dale Golightly was born June 18, 1933 at home in Madison County, Iowa, the son of Jerome and Ethel (Reigle) Golightly. He graduated from Van Meter High School in 1952 and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Vera Jamison on June 19, 1955 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Van Meter. Dale came home from the service and started farming, never really retiring. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church where he held various offices. He was on the Van Meter School Board, the Boonville Co-op Board and the Madison County Fair Board. Dale was a collector and enjoyed attending flea markets and auctions. He enjoyed fishing with his children, gardening and watching Iowa State basketball and football. Above all else, Dale cherished spending time with family, especially with his grandchildren. Dale is survived by his wife of 63 years, Vera Golightly of Van Meter; four children, Brad (Shelly) Golightly of Perry, Randy (Anna) Golightly of Van Meter, Dan (Michelle) Golightly of Waukee, and Jean (J.R.) Hall of Urbandale; five grandchildren, Jana Ferguson, Austin (Brittney) Golightly, Karlee Golightly, Jason (Angela) Mickelson and Nathan Mickelson; three great-grandchildren, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Ethel Golightly and a grandson, Bret Golightly.
