Dale Clinton Goodhue was born on the family farm in Warren County, Iowa on February 27, 1933, to John Clinton and Helen Elizabeth (Young) Goodhue. Dale grew up on the farm and would maintain an interest in agriculture all of his life. His schooling began at Linn Grove and Farmer’s country schools where he would ride a horse each day to attend class. Dale went on to attend high school in Indianola graduating in the class of 1951. He then enrolled in Simpson College. Dale volunteered for the draft and began service in the United States Army in 1953, where he was a tank instructor. After his discharge from the Army, he continued his education at Simpson College and graduated in 1957. Dale began working with his father and Duane VanPatten at Goodhue Insurance and Real Estate in 1957, and continued in the family business his entire life, selling insurance, real-estate and managing several real-estate rentals. His marriage to Peggy Jean Grissom took place on April 26, 1964, at the First Methodist Church in Des Moines and they would share 45 years together. Dale attended the Carlisle United Methodist Church, where over the years he was one of the head ushers and active in church life, but maintained his membership at the Ackworth Friends Church. He was a member of the Carlisle Chamber of Commerce and he was a proud member of the SAE fraternity which he joined while attending Simpson. Dale never met a stranger and loved telling jokes. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and boating and took many people water skiing. He also enjoyed gardening and giving the bounty of his garden to friends in the community. Many will recall the homemade ice cream he would make and give out on the 4th of July to his friends and relatives. All this said, Dale was a devoted family man who loved nothing more than time spent with family, especially his two granddaughters, Valerie and Ashton, who were the pride of his life. Dale is survived by his daughter, Debbie Goodhue-Nolte and her husband, Paul of Carlisle; two brothers, Don Goodhue and his wife, Carmon of Santa Ynez, CA and Darrell Goodhue and his wife, Evadne of Carlisle; and two granddaughters, Valerie & Ashton Goodhue-Nolte of Carlisle. Dale is further survived by Keith Gunzenhauser and his wife, Kathleen who, for all practical purposes, was his third brother, having been lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Goodhue and his wife, Peggy who died October 17, 2009.
