Daniel Lee Mcdevitt

Daniel McDevitt, age 74 of Perry (formerly Nevada, IA), passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022, at Aspire of Perry nursing home in Perry, IA. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home & Cremation Care in Perry with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. Memorials will be given to Perry Booster Club and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Daniel Lee McDevitt was born on October 16, 1948, in Perry, IA to Francis Eugene and Margaret Edith (Snedden) McDevitt. He attended Perry and Boone High Schools, graduating from Boone with the Class of 1966. He then went to Iowa State University graduating with a major in Physical Education. He served in the Iowa National Guard for 6 years as a Medical Corpsman. Daniel worked at UBC Lumber Company in Boone, now Builders 1st Choice, as a residential construction designer and in construction sales, retiring in 2016. He attended the Baptist and Catholic Churches. He enjoyed photography, playing sports, golf, bowling, and baseball. Daniel loved watching Iowa State University mens and womens sports and the New York Yankees. In death he rejoins his parents, Francis and Margaret McDevitt, and a brother, Keith (Vicky) McDevitt. Left to cherish Daniels memory are his son, Alex McDevitt, Iowa City, IA, siblings, Jim (Marilin) McDevitt, Perry, IA, and Diane (Mike) Knight, Fayetteville, TN, nieces and nephews, Matthew (Anne Marie) McDevitt, Perry, IA, Melissa (Paul) Doherty, Walnut Creek, CA, Kristy McDevitt and Brian McDevitt, Boone, IA.
