Daniel Myron Linn

Hastings Funeral Home in Perry is in charge of arrangements for Daniel Myron Linn, 65, of Hackensack, Minnesota. Daniel died August 3, 2015. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2015 at the Rippey United Methodist Church with a luncheon following. Daniel is survived by his wife Valerie Linn of Hackensack, MN; mother KathLeen Linn of Rippey; children Scot Linn, John Linn, Sarah Linn Gallardos of Raymond, TX and Leslie Linn; sisters Peggy Porretta of Rippey and Rebecca Linn of Dana. Daniel Myron Linn, son of Myron "Mike" Linn and Kathleen Andrews Linn, was born April 24, 1950 in Jefferson, Iowa and died from complications of Multiple Sclerosis August 3, 2015 at the age of 65. He was a resident on Woman Lake near Hackensack, Minnesota. Dan was born and raised in Rippey, Iowa. A farmer's son, he knew at an early age that he wanted to be a scientist. His mother recalls his enjoyment of watching the stars, feeding the birds, fossils, bugs, and war on squirrels. He graduated from East Greene High School in 1968. Shortly after graduating Daniel married Carol Kaufman and they were blessed with two children: Scot and Sarah. Dan received his BS in Bacteriology from Iowa State in 1972, his MS in Microbiology from Virginia Tech in 1975, and his PhD in Soil Microbiology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Carol and Dan later were divorced and in 1983 he married Valeria Wilhelm. To this union two more children were born John and Leslie. In 1984 Dan began work with the DuPont Company in Wilmington, Delaware. For the next 17 years he worked for the Crop Protection Products Business, spending his time between working, coaching soccer, and attending swim meets. He had a paper on cancer published. In 2011 Dan and his wife moved to their native Midwest to begin their next chapter. Although being diagnosed with M.S. from the beginning, he didn't let that stop him from doing what he loved. His philosophy was pretty simple: work hard, don't complain, and love family. He had published a paper on cancer. Daniel was preceded in death by his father Myron "Mike" Linn, uncle Jim Linn, aunt Margery Shearer and nephew Jason Whelchel. Daniel is survived by his wife Valeria Linn of Hackensack, MN; mother Kathleen Linn of Rippey; children Scott Linn, Sarah (Ray) Linn Gallardo, John Linn, and Leslie Linn; grandchildren Matt, Lila, Ray, Logan and Ben; sisters Peggy Porretta of Rippey and Rebecca Linn of Dana; aunts Helen Tuhn of Stockton, CA, Barbara Rogers of Redfield and Shirley Linn of Grand Junction; uncle Paul Linn (Lorraine) of Evington, VA; nieces and nephews Jeremy Whelchel and his wife Janelle; Jarrod Whelchel; Jennifer Whitney; Jill Witte and her husband Ryan; Shane Jewett and his wife Cori; Ian Jewett, and Amanda Jewett; many cousins, other relatives and friends.
