Daniel Nathan Schafer, age 38, of Clive, Iowa, passed away on September 13th, 2021 at MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, due to complications with Pneumonia. A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 18th, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, and a funeral service will immediately follow at 4:00 PM, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home – McCalley Chapel, 735 S. 14th St., Adel, Iowa. A private burial will take place at Oakdale Cemetery in Adel, Iowa, at a later date. Tray Thomas and Bryan Arzani, both family friends, will speak at the service. Daniel was born December 15th, 1982 to Cathy and Steve Schafer in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Adel-De Soto-Minburn High School in May of 2001. He met his wife, Amber, in January of 2004, and they married in July of 2005. Together, they welcomed their daughter, Mackenzie, who was born on April 13th, 2006. They just celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary this past summer, and would have been together 18 years this coming January. In the past few weeks, Dan was very excited to begin working with Progressive Insurance Company and elevate his career as a Field Claims Adjuster, and not be behind a desk. Dan began his career in the Insurance Industry in 2013, at Wellmark, and prior to Progressive, he worked at Nationwide as a Claims Specialist 1 First Part Medical. Through the years, Dan made many friends and colleagues, and still kept in touch with many of them on Facebook and through calls and texts. Anyone who knew Dan knew that he loved his flip flops, ice cream, Italian food, guns and ammo – He loved to go shooting! He loved talking about trucks, listening to Eminem and oh, his prized beard, which he proudly grew out for years, while applying beard oil, of course. The family’s Bengal Cats were his and Amber’s babies, too. Jasmine and Meeko have been part of their lives for a few years now. Abu, the family’s first Bengal, passed away suddenly. They were heartbroken, and Dan honored Abu by getting a specialized license plate – “HYABUBU” –. Lastly, on the list of things that Dan cherished, don’t forget them HAWKEYES. His last request – “Let me see the score on the Iowa v Iowa State game.” He would be very happy to know the Hawkeyes won! He is survived by his wife, Amber Schafer; daughter, Mackenzie Schafer; parents, Cathy and Steve Schafer; siblings, Matt (Kelly) Schafer, Joe (Jackie) Schafer and Valerie Schafer; and extended family, Mike (Judy) Kruger, Melody (Scott) Branson, Andrew Kruger, Jake Kruger and Blake Kruger. He was preceded in death by his sister, Catharine Schafer, just 9 short months ago, in December, 2020. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Daniel’s wife, Amber Schafer. Daniel would also want everyone to be casually dressed, as he wasn’t a formal guy. Online condolences may be left at www.caldwellparrish.com
