Daniel Smith

Daniel Earl Smith was born December 7, 1938 in Story County Iowa to Lloyd R. and Elaine Smith. He passed on to be with his Lord and Savior May 16, 2016. Dan was a kind, responsible son and older brother, always quick to help, serve and encourage his brothers and sisters, his parents and later, his widowed mother. Dan was conscientious in his work and served as a paperboy providing excellent service, had a keen interest in politics and began working at a young age serving as a Page Boy in the Iowa State Senate for four legislative sessions. He graduated from East High School and Drake University in Des Moines. Dan taught school in Buena Park, and Fresno California as well as Grinnell and Indianola Iowa. He oversaw the Iowa State Senate Bill Room and served in the campaigns helping his father to be elected to the position of Iowa State Auditor for three terms. Dan is survived by brothers Lloyd Jr and wife Susan, David and wife Joyce, sisters Lois and husband Jim and Mary as well as several nieces and nephews in Iowa, Colorado, Texas and Oregon. A funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory.
