Dariusz "Derek" Hofman

Dariusz “Derek” Michal Hofman, 57, of Clive passed away Friday, May 12, 2023 with his family by his bedside at UnityPoint, Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, IA.

Derek was born October 25, 1965 to Jerzy and Irena (Smigielska) Hofman. He grew up and lived in Poland for his younger years, until moving to America with his parents and two younger brothers to leave a communist Russian Government in Poland. Derek worked as a forklift driver for Fawn Manufacturing in Clive. He was a member of Local Union 270 for 29 years.

Derek was an avid fan of Iowa Hawkeyes football, NASCAR, and the Minnesota Vikings. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He had big heart and would offer help to anyone. He was known to many as Cheetah.

He loved get-togethers and seeing his grandkids. His grandkids brought him so much joy and happiness. His youngest grandchild Maximus called him Opa, which brought a big smile to Derek. He also enjoyed a competitive game of chess.

Derek’s legacy continues with his adult children, Justin, Nicole, Derek (little D), Andrew, and Haley and his five grandchildren, Hannah, Noah, twins Harper and Elizabeth, Maximus and one on the way. He is survived by parents, Jerzy and Irena Hofman; brothers, Ryszard “Richard” and Elwira Hofman, Artur “Art” and Julie Hofman, and Jerzy Jr Hofman and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Memorial service for Derek will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 19, 2023, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory with visitation 1 hour prior. Inurnment will be in Glendale Cemetery.
