Darlene Northup

August 18, 1926 — September 15, 2005

Darlene Louise Northup, daughter of Frank John Charlet and Della May Faber Charlet, was born August 18, 1926 on a farm near Perry and died June 12, 2005 at the Adel Acres Care Facility in Adel, Iowa at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 24 days. Darlene grew up on a farm in Dallas County. She graduated from Minburn High School in 1943. After high school Darlene went to work for the Perry Daily Chief newspaper in Perry. On December 22, 1946 Darlene was united in marriage to Donald L. Northup at the First Christian Church in Perry. They were the parents of two children: Delores and Daniel. They made their home in Perry were Darlene continued to work for the Perry Chief and also the Davisson Chemical Company until 1950 when they moved to Minnesota. In 1955, the family moved to Audubon, Iowa and returned to Perry in 1958. In 1963, Darlene went to work for the pork plant which was later bought by Oscar Mayer working in the accounting department until her retirement in 1988 after 26 years. Darlene loved to crochet and go camping. She also like to play the piano and the organ. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Perry, the Lutheran Home Auxiliary and the Ladies of the Moose. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 sisters: Gladys Sheets and Dorothy Root; and a brother: Frank Charlet. She is survived by her daughter Delores Tapper and her husband Lee of Adel, Iowa; her son: Daniel Northup and his wife Vick of Adel, Iowa; 4 grandchildren: Ken Tapper of Adel, Mathew Tapper and his wife Amber of Grimes, Daniel Northup Jr. and his wife Melissa of Nashville, Tennessee, and Hollie Pirtle and her husband Andy of Des Moines, Iowa; 6 great-grandchildren: Liza and Caleb Tapper, and Mercedes, Amber, Colton, and Tristan Pirtle; 2 sisters: Alice De Moss of Santee, California and Betty Greif of Dallas Center, Iowa, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
